Nintendo DS No Competition For Low-Tech Alternatives

Botox for the wrinkles and “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” for the saddlebags are so passé in light of the high tech pursuit of the fountain of youth, but the sensation that Nintendo DS games like “Brain Training” have become for the memory is highly overrated, according research out of the University of Rennes. A rousing game of Scrabble or the archaic use of a *gasp* pencil to complete a sudoku puzzle are just as effective as the electronic alternatives, say scientists. In fact, kids who used the system showed no significant improvement in tests of memory, so it stands to figure that minds at such an impressionable age are a far better indicator of effectiveness than the claims of Nintendo regarding Dr. Kawashima’s exercises in mental gymnastics.
